Herceg Novi, Montenegro
On the Adriatic coast, the Republic of Montenegro is the lesser known cousin to the famous Croatia. However, this is soon to change. With a smaller, but similarly beautiful coastline, property in Montenegro is comparatively undervalued. The bay of Kotor is it's jewel. The two biggest cities are Nikšić, at the foot of Mount Trebjesa, and the capital, Podgorica (pronounced Podgoritsa).
Podgorica lies inland, and is conveniently situated between a number of ski centres in the mountains to the north east, and the coastal towns to the south west.
Until recently Montenegro was joined with Serbia. Now that Montenegro has won independance, Serbia is the official succesor state to the preceeding union.
Tourism in Serbia is based around mountains and villages, together with a number of spas (a feature shared with Bulgaria)
